Polymer Reinforcement
Our technology reinforces polymers by functionalizing a natural additive at the nanoscale level, thereby improving the mechanical and thermal properties of the resulting composite. Our approach produces superior results compared to methods that use simple mixing.
The additive is available from renewable sources. In addition, there should be minimal changes to current production techniques, involving some functionalization and preparation of both the filler and the matrix.
One potential use of our technology is to reinforce polylactic acid (PLA) to provide improved mechanical and thermal properties with a material that is essentially biodegradable and where the key raw materials are obtained from renewable sources.
The linked overview provides more details on the technology, including experimental results to date.
